TEDxHWZ 2024: Pushing Beyond Boundaries
On November 23, 2024, our EMBA Digital Leadership class had the honor of organizing TEDxHWZ in Zurich. The theme “Beyond Boundaries” was chosen early, but what it truly meant became clear through the stories and insights shared on stage. As the moderator, I had the unique opportunity to guide the audience on this inspiring journey.
Exploring the Meaning of “Beyond Boundaries”
The event featured a lineup of outstanding speakers, each offering their perspective on breaking limits and discovering new horizons.
- Frank Kreuzer started the day with his incredible story of climbing the longest staircase in the world on the Niesen. His journey showed us how determination and mindset help overcome even the steepest challenges.
- Lars Thomsen redefined artificial intelligence, calling it “Ambient Intelligence.” He explained how technology can enhance human experiences rather than replace them, broadening our understanding of AI’s potential.
- Roger Tobel inspired us to embrace imperfection. He shared why celebrating flaws can become one of our greatest strengths, fostering authenticity and deeper connections.
- Magician Florian Klein added a touch of wonder to the day, demonstrating why keeping a sense of magic in our lives is essential for creativity and joy.
- Lisa Barkei connected the art of tango with digital leadership. She explained how partnership and adaptability drive success and delighted the audience with a live tango performance on the red carpet.
- Erhan Demirel shared a powerful message about leaving comfort zones. He encouraged us to step into uncertainty to discover new paths and achieve personal growth.
- Shark researcher Ornella Weideli debunked myths about sharks, explaining why our fear of them is unfounded. She shared three life lessons from sharks, teaching us to trust our instincts and embrace challenges.
- Entrepreneur Marcel Lienhard shared how he turned ideas into reality. Using his TeslaSharing project, he showed the challenges and rewards of bringing a vision to life.
- Markus Iofcea urged us to make the future a priority in everyday business, not just a topic for occasional meetings. He explained why a forward-thinking mindset is key for long-term success.
- Finally, Dani Arnold, a professional alpinist and speed record holder, took us on a breathtaking journey through the mountains. He explained how preparation, respect for nature, and the right mindset are essential for success in high-risk environments.
A Day Full of Inspiration
The energy of the audience made the event truly special. Engaged and curious, they were an essential part of the day. After the talks, we had the chance to reflect, share ideas, and connect over delicious snacks and an aperitif.
My First Experience as a Moderator
Moderating TEDxHWZ 2024 was a personal milestone for me. It was my first time in this role, and it taught me valuable lessons: to step out of my comfort zone, trust my instincts, let go of perfection, and enjoy the moment.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who made this event a success—the speakers, the team, and the audience. Together, we truly lived up to the theme “Beyond Boundaries.”
Here’s to breaking more boundaries in the future!
